Markdown
What this does
The reverse direction: take rendered HTML and get editable Markdown back. Useful when the only copy you have is a published page.
Common uses
- Recovering a draft from a CMS that lost the Markdown source
- Turning a web article or an email into a README
- Cleaning up HTML pasted out of a WYSIWYG editor
How it works
Conversion uses Turndown, configured for ATX headings and fenced code blocks. Everything happens locally — nothing is uploaded.
FAQ
Will it keep my inline styles and classes? No. Markdown has no syntax for them, so presentational attributes are dropped. That is usually the point of converting.
What happens to script and style content? It is stripped. Only document content survives the conversion.
