Markdown table
What this does
Finds the first <table> in pasted HTML and rewrites it as a Markdown table.
Where it earns its keep
- Documentation migration: old HTML docs into a Markdown wiki
- A table copied out of a page’s source view
- Cleaning up CMS output before it goes into a repository
How the table is read
The markup goes through the browser’s own HTML parser, so tags inside a cell come
through as their text instead of breaking the row. colspan becomes empty cells so the
column count still lines up with the header. Nested tables are not flattened: the first
row of an inner table reads as another row of the outer one.
